Choose separate specialized systems if you already have separate teams, separate budgets, and established vendor relationships for each segment. The cost of switching relationships is real, even if it never shows up on an invoice.
Choose a single-source Fotona-Laser approach if you want to reduce procurement overhead, need to move between aesthetic and industrial applications, and care about application support. Just verify that the local service team can actually service both machines in your region.
Whichever route you take, do not sign without asking these questions:
- What is the total installed cost, including shipping, setup, and initial training?
- What is excluded from the warranty?
- What is the annual service contract, and what does it cover?
- Can I see a test run on my material—acrylic sheets, wood, or metal?
- If I need laser weld monitoring later, can this system upgrade, or do I need a new machine?
Pricing I mentioned above came from vendor quotes I collected in Q4 2024. The market changes fast, so verify current rates and service terms before you budget. In my opinion, a laser purchase is not a commodity purchase. It is an investment in the quality your customers see.
